If your agent is an employee of the insurance company:

A successful insurance company agent helps the company fulfill its purpose and meet its goals. Insurance companies are in business to make a profit. In order to enhance their profits claims control is essential. Every dollar they don't pay out to you goes directly to improve their bottom line.

"Their bottom line is their bottom line."

The company agents don't get promoted if they fail at this.

If you agent is an "independent" agent or broker:

The independent agent's or broker's commission and ability to continue to do business with an insurance company is often dependent on his/her claims history, i.e. how much money the insurer has to pay you. Having you paid less is often more important to your agent's/broker's business than making an insurer unhappy. The more the insurer has to pay out to you and other clients of your agent/broker, the less likely the insurer will want to pay him/her, and the less the insurer will want to continue to do business with your agent/broker.

But...

You were promised full and prompt payment.

You are entitled to it!
